THE DAMAO TAKE
Our verdict
We would not buy an old pair on name recognition alone. A clear return policy, demonstrable condition and a substantial saving are essential to the case.
At a glance
- Model
- AirPods Pro 1, Wireless Charging Case
- Listening modes
- Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency
- Charging case
- Lightning and Qi wireless charging
- Battery claim
- Up to 4.5 hours per charge (Apple)
Make sure you are comparing the right generation
AirPods Pro is a family name, not a complete product description. This review concerns the first-generation model with the original Wireless Charging Case. It does not cover the second-generation or third-generation earbuds. A listing that leaves the generation or charging connector unclear is not ready for a meaningful price comparison.
That matters especially when shopping used. Similar-looking white earbuds can differ in age, features, condition and included accessories. Ask the seller for the exact model information and make sure the item you receive matches the description. A familiar appearance should never replace a clear purchasing record.
The original feature set
Apple specifies active noise cancellation, Transparency mode, silicone tips in three sizes and up to 4.5 hours of listening on one charge. The original case supports Lightning and Qi charging. These are published model features and original battery claims, not measurements of a used pair. Do not borrow the specifications of later AirPods generations when evaluating this one.
The everyday question is whether the fit works for your ears. A good return policy is important because photographs cannot show comfort or how well a particular tip seals. If you are replacing earbuds you already own, identify the problem you hope to solve first. Changing products without knowing whether fit, battery life or connection behavior is the issue can be an expensive experiment.

Condition is more important than the old retail price
We would assess the earbuds and the case as a complete set. Check charging behavior, listen to each side, test the controls and inspect the physical condition. Ask what has been cleaned or replaced and whether the seller offers any documented warranty. A short successful pairing demonstration alone is not enough to establish authenticity or long-term battery health.
For a commuter, unreliable endurance can matter more than a modest saving. Think about the longest uninterrupted listening session you actually need, then test within the return period if a purchase is made. Do not assume an aged battery will reach the launch specification. Avoid listings whose condition description gives you no practical way to resolve a problem.
The buying case is narrow
If you already own a functioning first-generation pair, there is no automatic need to replace it just because later versions exist. Keep using equipment that still meets your needs. Buying another old pair is a different decision: it should be justified by condition and value relative to available new alternatives, rather than by a premium brand alone.
DAMAO has not tested the sound, noise reduction or endurance of a review unit for this article. Our conclusion is a cautious purchasing assessment: verify the model, fit and seller terms, and treat uncertain battery history as part of the cost. For buyers who want a predictable everyday purchase, a new product with clear support may be easier to justify.
Pros and cons
What works
- Noise cancellation and Transparency modes
- Pocketable case with wired and wireless charging
- Several included tip sizes when sold as a complete set
What to weigh up
- Older batteries may fall well short of original claims
- Generation and authenticity need careful checking
- Original case uses Lightning, not USB-C
Who should buy it?
Most relevant to existing owners or careful secondhand shoppers who understand the generation and can verify condition. It is not our default recommendation for a first-time buyer seeking predictable battery life.
The conclusion
We would not buy an old pair on name recognition alone. A clear return policy, demonstrable condition and a substantial saving are essential to the case.
Check the exact model, total cost, condition and return terms before committing. A product is good value only when it is right for your needs.
